Finished reading Ishmael…

Finished reading Ishmael Beah's A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. I had to read this book in pieces; it was so harrowing that I could only take a few pages at a time. It's so much worse, reading this kind of thing after having children -- Ishmael was only a few years older than Kavya when the war came to his village and swallowed his life. Reading the early chapters, I kept picturing my own children in his situation. Heartbreaking. Recommended.
