The rest of the day was going into campus to attend a job talk (good, interesting, on race and queerness and prisons and the tv show Oz), then swinging by a mental illness in Asian Americans theatrical production a colleague organized (unfortunately, job talk ran long enough that I arrived halfway through the performance, so didn't go in to interrupt the show, but I'm sure it was splendid; the last one of these she organized was great (in a sad and moving and informative sort of way), and finally heading off to Powell's on Halsted to attend an undergrad reading organized by another colleague, which was tiny, but still a lot of fun. It's the end of the semester, and everyone's trying to pack in final events, and everyone's running around frantic, but I'm just grateful that the kids are now old enough and non-exhausting enough that I can manage to go to all these optional things. Good for my department good-membership, and also mostly educational / enjoyable. :-) I even had a few writing ideas, which I will now go jot down before they disappear -- no time to write them out tonight, but in a few weeks, hopefully...
