We'll also make plans for the book club going forward -- where we'll meet, what books we'll discuss in future months. (A few on my personal wish list: Kiran Desai's Inheritance of Loss, Chitra Divakaruni's Palace of Illusions (a Mahabharata retelling, from the point of view of Draupadi), Amitav Ghosh's River of Smoke, and Jhumpa Lahiri's Unaccustomed Earth.) So even if you haven't had a chance to read Verghese's book, if you're interested in helping to shape the future of the club, please do feel free to stop by.
Snacks, tea and wine will be provided for this first meeting, and isn't today's rainy weather perfect for curling up and talking about good books? If you need the address, drop me a line -- we're looking forward to a terrific meeting today!
9:30 update: I'm making a shopping list for today's DesiLit book club meeting. I'm thinking since we're reading a very colonial book (Verghese's _Cutting for Stone_, colonial snacks? So, tea party food (which, conveniently, is my party default anyway. :-) Cucumber sandwiches, chutney chicken sandwiches, tea and punch, cookies and cake? I haven't made a cake in forever -- I wanted to try this lemon mascarpone cake recipe, but it looks like you're supposed to start it two days ahead. Boo. I guess I'll go with scones and clotted cream and lemon curd instead. Which is not exactly a step down. :-)
