I’m feeling a little frenzied right now, trying to get everything in the house (and garage, and garden, and my life generally) cleaned up and reset before the semester starts. And in theory, also resting some?! I’m forgetting stuff right and left, which is frustrating. Too many balls in the air. Making more lists.
Among other things, I forgot to tell you all that Kavi got her first job, and we’re very proud of her! She’s working part-time this summer as a CNA at Austin Oasis, and she says everyone there has been very nice.
Kavi’s on the quarter schedule, so she has another month or so of it before she goes back to CA for college, but she’ll switch to an as needed schedule with them at that point, so will likely do some more work for them over winter break, and may pick up with them again next summer.
I don’t know what kind of jobs will be resilient in this new AI age — it makes it very hard to advise my college students. But I have to think that nursing is going to be tough to just replace with AI — AI isn’t going to be able to tuck a blanket around you when they notice you seem cold. When I was going through chemo, the nurses in the chemo ward were such a tremendous comfort to me.
Kavi is very much a nurturer, and she really likes the patient care aspect of medicine, so while we don’t know where she’ll end up exactly, career-wise, somewhere in patient care seems likely.
(Anand, on the other hand, we have no idea. He’s entering his junior year of high school, so we have a little time yet. We’ll see.)
