Garden log, 4/27. Time to weed and put down mulch. (Triple-milled hardwood, which breaks down and improves our clay soil.).
First pic is pre-mulching; the rest are after. I find it easier to motivate when I have some new little plants to add — eventually, I hope to have the garden so planted up that I basically don’t have to mulch at all. I buy a lot less mulch than I did 16 years ago, when I was starting with a bare plot.
I leave the tags for the first year, so I remember what the new plants are, and don’t pull the babies by mistake when summer weeding.
