SLF Writing Workshop

Quick note that today is the deadline for our upcoming SF/F writing workshop — we have 2-3 spots left in this small group intensive workshop, taught by me and my podcast co-host, award-winning SF/F writer Benjamin Rosenbaum. (There’s also a retreat option.)

Details here: https://speculativeliterature.org

Take five days to immerse yourself in writing and critiquing with people who love SF/F just as much as you do. Give and get feedback, ask as many questions as you like, learn from our guest speakers, eat yummy food (cooked by me).

We’ve had some questions about what we mean by ‘intermediate’ writer — I’ll just say that if you’re not an absolute beginner, if you’ve actually completed stories and perhaps started sending them out, this is an appropriate workshop to apply to.

I’ll be posting photos from last year’s workshop throughout the day, so keep an eye on my wall to see photos of happy, productive, well-fed writers. 🙂

Here’s a testimonial: “The 2025 SFF Workshop was a fantastic experience! I felt nervous about the critiquing process, but Ben and Mary Anne created a welcoming environment that encouraged honesty while also placing each writer’s goals at the forefront. I appreciated hearing from seasoned authors such as Sue Burke, Alec Nevala-Lee, and Lori Rader-Day about their experiences with the publishing industry. The workshop not only deepened my writing skills but also connected me with other intermediate-level writers. Months after the workshop ended we still check-in to offer feedback and support, commiserate over submission rejections, and cheer one another’s successes. Definitely recommended!“
