I’ve been pretty exhausted and frayed the last few days; I think it’s partly the working two jobs thing, plus the political chaos thing, and I’ve also been doing a fair bit of gardening on the good weather days, which is very soothing, but also has used a bunch of muscles that are unaccustomed, so I’m pretty sore.
So if I burst into tears at you, that’s why, sorry in advance.
Breathe, everyone. Let’s all just try to breathe. If the news is getting to you, walk away. It’s allowed. Read a comfort book. Knit or crochet something. If you don’t know how to knit or crochet, now is a lovely time to learn.
On the plus side, the semester is over in about four weeks, and I’m not teaching for UIC over the summer, so I’ll be mostly down to one job then (I’m still supposed to be writing and publishing, but that’s something I can work on while staffing the store — so okay, call it 1.5 jobs, maybe).
I’ve just booked a plane ticket to go visit Kavi (only $330 this time of year, a big improvement over her thousand dollar ticket to see us at Thanksgiving!), so that’s a very nice reward for getting through the next month. Something to look forward to.
Here is some lovely double bloodroot for you, which burst into bloom just now. This is a natural mutation of native bloodroot — it’s sterile (will multiply by runners into larger colonies over time), and is sadly not good for pollinators (the double forms generally aren’t, as all the extra petals make it hard for insects to get to the good stuff).
But gosh, it’s pretty. Like miniature gardenias.
