I’ve had a reasonably productive morning — came down to eat breakfast in the hotel restaurant, spent time thinking through a bunch of the backlogged work for the SLF and for Serendib House, trying to figure out what I can redistribute to other people, now that money has started coming in a bit at the studio store.
I feel like I need to reiterate, for all the people who wonder how I do so much, that three things are true:
• I’ve been working literally 16-hr days most days (including weekends) for the last few months. That’s not sustainable, but it was necessary to get through the store launch while still doing right by my students.
• I’ve dropped some balls the last six months, and a couple of them were important balls. Trying to avoid that happening again, but I really did get overwhelmed and mess some things up in all the chaos. It’s one of my superpowers (that I attribute mostly to ADHD impulsiveness) that I don’t usually hesitate to take on big things, but the flip side of that is that sometimes I seriously overestimate my capacity, which generally ends in tears. I’ve learned to ask for help at that point. (Would be better if I asked for help BEFORE that point…)
• I have a lot of help. Kevin and Jed have been hugely helpful with my website hack and other tech issues. I honestly had no idea how I would have coped with that without them. And I have a lot of paid help. Everything I earn through the writing and art businesses basically goes out again immediately for supplies, tech needs, and mostly for people to help me. So don’t ever think this is just one person producing all this — it’s at least two people, if you add up all the hours. Maybe three. Four? And that’s not even counting all the SLF staff…

(I feel I do deserve some kudos for sitting here and diligently working, when I can see Ruby right outside, and I could be chatting delightedly with her instead…)
