Grading

At the studio today, 1-7 — Roshani came by to do some co-working with me. Helping me to motivate to actually get through my grading — why do I love teaching so much, and yet have less and less energy for grading every year? It’s a mystery, especially because grading doesn’t actually take that long once I get started. But oh, the procrastination is strong!

But I’ve finished phase 1 with one class, and I’ve made myself a little plate of wine and cheese and fruit and quince paste and spicy fig spread and crackers, and that will power me through phase 1 of the second class.

Phase 1 is mostly going through and double-checking that they’ve handed in everything they were supposed to by this point in the semester, and then writing stern notes that they have until Monday midnight to get those last journal entries, etc. in, or they will LOSE POINTS. The undergrads are very points-motivated, especially the freshmen. It tires me, but what can you do? Hopefully by the end of the semester, I’ll have instilled a tiny bit more love of learning in some of them, at least…
