Oof. Grand Opening weekend starts tomorrow, and I had a very frustrating couple of hours today — was trying to update the new website, and in the process, discovered that ALL my personal websites were down. (The SLF is fine, thankfully — different account). After much back and forth with staff and ISP tech support, learned that it’s been hacked again, and it’ll be over $1000 to have them fix it. GAH.
I’ve written back and asked if they can just get the Serendib House Studio site back up today or tomorrow (for $99), and we’ll deal with the rest later — no response yet.
And Stephanie was also trying to do some flyer design for me so I can pass those out in the morning, and she needed a logo from me, and I had to grab it from Canva, but then my phone’s internet went out for no good reason, so I couldn’t do that until I drove back home and had WiFi again.
I am absolutely cursed by technology today, and it was all super-frustrating, and I admit I cried a little.
(What did I do to offend the technology gods? Is it because I was snarky about Elon Musk in SF Lit class today? It pisses me off when he quotes Ursula K. Le Guin for his own purposes — the devil can quote scripture, you know. He should keep her name out of his dirty mouth. I’m guessing that the technology gods would actually be on my side of that debate…)
SIGH.

Eventually, I got some perspective on it all, and realized if we put up flyers with a broken website listing, a listing that’ll be fixed in a few days, it’s really not a big deal.
The flyers will have:
• the store opening hours, which is the important thing
• a note about the Grand Opening
• mention of the various community events that are happening regularly (yarn circle, garden club, co-writing, book club, board game night)
• the QR code that leads to the social media…
…all of which is still working, and the website is probably the last thing anyone is likely to look at.
But I do keep having to tell people what our hours are, and it would be SO NICE to be able to just point them to a website. Soon.

Now I go back to hanging fairy lights. Something I can control. And sparkly. (It’s hard to photograph them so they’re visible, but trust me, they’re pretty.)
