Long day. I had a LOT of computer work to do today, and I’ve just had to power through it because it was time-sensitive, but I’m not used to so much sitting (really ought to set up my makeshift treadmill desk again and start using it), so every once in a while I HAD to get up and move around, so I alternated the computer work with cleaning.
As a result, the house is noticeably cleaner, which is good, and I’ve churned through most of the work I had to get done — I can manage maybe 30 minutes more tonight, and the rest will have to wait for morning, because my brain is failing. Also, my back hurts.
But on the plus side, I lit a whole bunch of candles, and just now poured myself a glass of wine, and once I finish the next bit of computer work, I’m going to sink into a relaxing book.
I’ve been reading Rebecca Thorne’s delightful lesbian fantasy cozies (with tea! and pirates!), a lovely escape from this fascist hellscape we currently live in. It’s been really nice seeing how her writing has improved with every book (this is often not the case, alas). I finished her first four-book series, which started as indie-published, I think, and then got picked up by a trad publisher. If you like Legends & Lattes, this is probably for you.
The new series just has the first book out (This Gilded Abyss), and is less of a cozy and more of a traditional fantasy (also a fascist hellscape it seems, but a different one to ours, at least), with lots and lots of queer content, and a lot of unusual world-building too. I’m enjoying it. But the next book isn’t out for many months, and it’s a trilogy, so I’m setting myself up for frustration here. Oh well.
