Oof. Just paid annual sales tax (due today). It was enough that I suspect they’ll move me to quarterly, which I guess is good. But between that and all the opening-new-studio expenses, my little business is currently perilously close to broke, and I think I’m going to have to loan it money from my family account to be able to pay my part-time staff this month.
I guess this is why people take out loans when they’re starting small businesses, but that idea made me really nervous too — what if nobody bought anything? Maybe everyone who wanted a resin flower table has bought one already??
Don’t worry — I’m okay overall. Kevin and I still have our day jobs, which do cover our regular living expenses.
But it’s all just making me anxious. I suppose this is normal for opening a brick and mortar? You’re supposed to feel panicky and wonder every day if this was a terrible mistake and if you’re going to make rent next month?
Maybe I should go rewatch The Bear and see people in a much more difficult situation to put it all into perspective.
(Also, America is falling apart and is an embarrassment on the world stage, but that, at least, is not my fault.)
