Little bits of various things I love

I’m trying to do little bits of various things I love today, to close out 2025 well, and set good intentions for 2026. So far, I’ve:

• watched TV with Kavi, snuggling on the couch (she’s watching the OC now, blast from my past…)

• played a video game with Anand that he’s been wanting to show me (In Stars and Time, interesting time-loop RPG, funny)

• cooked something unnecessary and delicious (abelskiver)

• eaten more food I love (Ethiopian Diamond leftovers)

• took fifteen minutes to hem a new robe so I can actually wear it (yes, I know, there are all the jokes about getting mom a robe for Christmas, but I got myself this robe, and I like it, so it’s fine…)

• started some amaryllises and paperwhites

• knit a little bit (trying super-bulky yarn for the first time, Berocco Macro, size 15 needles — a little awkward, but I’m a quarter done with this pillow cover in just 30 minutes of knitting, so that’s impressive)

• read for at least 3-4 hours (finished Food Person, still not sure what I think of it — I was so irritated by the protagonist that it makes it hard for me to judge the book fairly)

• thought about writing, have an idea for a new food essay, plan to jot down notes for it at least, as soon as I’m done with this post

• and soon Kevin will come up and we’ll watch a TV show together in bed, and that will be a nice end to the day.

(Well, the end of my day — Kavi is out at a New Year’s Eve party in the city with her friends, so I suspect Kevin won’t actually go to sleep until she’s safely back again. She’s 18, and in theory an adult, but still.)

Tomorrow, I’m hoping to see various friends at potluck and board games. (If you’re a local board gamer and would like to stop by our 12-8 p.m. open house, you’re welcome — just let me know, and I’ll send you the details.)
Friday, back to work!
