I’m on my fifth Christmas Netflix movie

Today I was mostly unscheduled, so I’m on my fifth Christmas Netflix movie of the day. I regret nothing.

I did also:

  • start the day with giving Anand a driving lesson before school (it’s hard for us to find time to practice when I’m not at work and it’s not dark out)
  • had breakfast of leftover curry, plus tea and meds
  • spent a half hour reading Charlie Jane Anders’ latest book — will probably finish it tonight. Very good, unsurprisingly. I like starting the day with reading — need to get back to trying to do that every day.
  • spend a few hours doing resin work — mostly top coats finishing pieces, also some organizing, as things get chaotic down in the basement when I’m busy. And I started a new dahlia table, fun. 🙂 Lots of glue peels tomorrow.
  • figured out the permitting process (with the help of a lovely kind Village Hall staffer who stayed on the phone with me for ten minutes and talked me through it) and submitted my request for a Certificate of Occupancy — they say they usually get back to you within 3 business days, which would be great — we’ll see!

(And Cory Wesley, I think the main issue is that the Village could use an hour or two with an instructional designer, because there are parts of the process that are really non-intuitive right now. I can jump on a Zoom and walk you through it at some point, if you want. I took screen shots of the points where I got confused.)
  • had lunch of leftover curry
  • talked to the Porch person who said they set up my Comcast service (which Comcast had no record of) and they swear it’s set up, so we’ll see if the installer actually brings me WiFi tomorrow morning, fingers crossed
  • talked to Stephanie, who is putting more of the inventory up in the online shop — we should have the butterfly and cicada jewelry up very soon, and the Autumn 2025 jewelry
  • talked to Lissa and Laurette about plans for space usage in the next month
  • swung by the storefront, set up some furniture I stole from the house, and did some straightening up from the clothing swap, also swept — I need to go over and wash the windows sometime soon, as they’re somewhat grotty and neglected, also take out trash and big boxes of recycling
  • picked up my Vyvanse (ADHD meds), without which all this would likely come to a grinding halt
  • stopped at the grocery store and got flowers (because oncoming winter is depressing), mini cheesecakes (ditto), 1/2 a berry pie (double ditto), and pre-made cocktails (look, it’s been a hard week, okay?)
  • deposited a SLF grant check for operating funds, which should let me pay my part-time staff through the end of the year, thank you, Illinois Arts Council! (Connor Nevitt, fyi.)
  • forgot a meeting (sorry! brain is getting fried by 5:30 p.m., I probably shouldn’t try to do things in the evening if I can avoid it)
  • fed Anand something because Kevin is on campus tonight — I was only feeling up to scrambled eggs and buttered multigrain toast, but he seemed perfectly happy with that; Anand’s easy to feed, which is a blessing
  • did remember to go to let community group person into the space so she could set up for her community fridge event tonight — hope she gets some good donations for A House in Austin
  • ate my rice and chicken curry leftovers (comfort food)
…and now back to rom-com #5, which is the worst of the ones so far, I think. Kev will be home soon, at which point we’ll probably switch to better TV. We’ve started Pluribus, which is very well done, if also grim. We may watch Abbott instead, or the most recent season of Resident Alien, or see if there’s a new Elspeth yet.

Today’s rom-coms in rough order of preference:

1) No Sleep ’til Christmas (silly premise, but actually pretty well done)

2) Champagne Problems (beautiful Paris countryside, but lots of the movie is in French, so not ideal for crafting background if you don’t speak French)

3 )A Merry Little Ex-Mas (bonus — protagonist is around my age)

4) Same Time Next Christmas (lots of pretty Hawai’i sunsets)

5) A Sprinkle of Christmas (weakest dialogue, I think, though I’m not that far into it…)
