Yesterday, the kids went to Morton Arboretum. Kavi wanted to take Anand for a sibling bonding trip; I think she’s starting to feel a little sentimental about leaving in the fall for college. Kavi said that she had toured various colleges that were at least somewhat in the woods, and even though she hadn’t picked one of those, she thought Anand might like something like that for college, so wanted to show him an arboretum.
It was going to take a lot longer to do public transit, so I drove them (only about 20-25 minutes away, if no traffic), and then left them to wander on their own for two hours. I had no trouble amusing myself, of course. 🙂
One thing that’s really nice about visiting gardens is you can see how plants look when they’re mature and in combination with other plants — it’s often really difficult to assess that based on plant catalogs or plants on a shelf in a nursery.
This combo has some nice natives — aster and great blue lobelia. Pretty together! (Also lots of other plants I don’t know, of course.)
