I didn’t take photos last night, but had a lovely dinner at Ethiopian Diamond with Devi Bhaduri and Daniel von Brighoff — so nice to catch up with old friends. It’s a little tricky socializing right now — I can’t host the potluck brunches I normally do because I’m working at the Shops on the weekends. Hmph. Need to figure out when is a good time to socialize with people otherwise.
Devi came along to the Tuesday Funk reading, which was great — they always have such good readers, and a great, attentive audience that clearly really cares about literature. I read the opening to “Not Too Frightening,” my Joanna Russ memoir piece. The On Strike Against God reissue came out last July, so it’s been almost a year — I’ll have Connor Nevitt add it to to my website soon, will post when it’s up.
So far this morning, I woke up at 6, came down and ate Ethiopian leftovers, made tea and took meds — and then promptly fell asleep on the couch until 8. I guess I was tired! I’ve started training with Liz again — I mostly stopped exercising in the crazed run-up to the Shops opening, because I just couldn’t figure out when to fit in the time, but I’m back to it now. Sore, but it feels good.
My stupid left wrist is still giving me trouble, but I do think it’s getting better, and the right seems almost fully healed now. Well, if I’m careful with it. Getting there, and Liz is good at coming up with exercises that I can do without putting undue strain on the injuries.
Now that I’m actually awake, I’ve gotten dressed and gone out and finally dealt with a wildly overgrown rose that desperately needed tying up. I kept meaning to do it, but it just wasn’t at the top of the list — but yesterday it burst into bloom, and then it was just too sad to leave it dragging on the ground. Brought out my trusty rose gauntlets (a passing neighbor complimented me on them, and said they looked like welding gloves!), and it didn’t take long to get it into a more reasonable position. 🙂
Plan for today: Try to keep chugging along on the various tasks. The lists are long, but summer means more flexibility in when I do everything, which is nice. And I’m going to try to try stop work at dinnertime today. Wish me luck!
