…anyway, I’m on my way now. Whew

Okay, that was a bit mad.

Shauna Singh Baldwin kindly invited me to be her guest at the literary Carol Shields Prize gala this evening, and I think the prize is very cool ($150,000, recently won by our own Sugi Ganeshananthan!), and I am fond of Shauna (wonderful writer in her own right), so I said yes, even though the Grand Opening weekend for my shop starts tomorrow and I have to be there at 8:30 a.m. to prepare for the ribbon cutting with Berwyn’s mayor, etc., and you know I have twenty more things I’d like to do before opening…

…but I said yes, and that would all be fine except I worked on shop stuff all day, and it was time to get dressed, so I went to look for the invitation with address in my email and it was gone, just gone, so I had no idea where i was supposed to go and googling told me nothing and Kevin couldnt find any info either and all that took 15 slightly panicked minutes, which meant that even if I found the address, I definitely didn’t have time to dress in the sari I’d planned in wearing…

…but in 10 minutes I threw on a salwar kameez, because one huge plus of being South Asian and going to weddings is that I have probably a dozen gala-appropriate outfits at this point and only half of them are saris, and then I embarrassedly called Shauna, and she laughed and told me the address, and I’m going to be late, but only 15 minutes, which isn’t too terrible, right?

It’s an American event, so they’ll probably start on time, or close to it, instead of on Indian Standard Time, which I’ve now realized gives you lots more time to futz with getting your sari folds to hang straight…

…anyway, I’m on my way now. Whew.
