Say goodbye to the azaleas

Say goodbye to the azaleas in the background — I’m giving them away to a neighbor who’s coming to dig them out this morning. They’re just not happy here, dwindling every year. I think they need someone willing to baby them with more acidic soil and regular fertilizer. Ah well!

In the foreground, Lady Jane species tulips. I’m hoping the smaller species tulips will do better here — all the big, fancy tulips tend to reduce in our zone. Plant twelve, you’ll have nine the next year, then five, then three, and then they’re gone. Roughly. The exception are the simple singles — Darwin hybrids, I think they’re called. But all the fancier ones go away over time.

Fingers crossed the species do better.
