If I understand karaoke right…

If I understand karaoke right (I’ve only tried it a few times), it’s partly about bonding through shared humiliation.

So here’s a bit of that from tonight — this song picked because it’s my sister Mirna’s birthday today, and she and I used to sing this in the car on long road trips, and I made her sing the boring parts because I was the big sister and I could.

And now she’s staying up late, on her birthday, waiting for Kavi to arrive, on a flight that was delayed 2.5 hours, so she can let Kavi into the condo for an exciting spring break weekend in New York.

Happy birthday to my terrific sister, and Kavi’s terrific aunty. Wish you could have joined in for convention karaoke tonight — I would’ve let you sing the good parts!
