I’m getting a little tired of the FAFO and leopards eating faces comments — these people were lied to, consistently and comprehensively. They are mostly not paying close attention to political discourse, often because they’re scrabbling to keep themselves and their families afloat.
I remember one summer when I had a shitty job with a two hour public transit commute each way — it was a bad economy, and the only job I could find, despite having a degree from the U of C. I can tell you, I paid no attention to the news that summer; it was all I could do to feed myself before dropping exhausted into bed — and I didn’t even have kids back then.
I’m not denying that sometimes racism and sexism factored into some voters’ choices. But that’s not the whole story; I’ve talked enough conservatives into changing their positions to know that for sure.
Just feeling sad and angry for all of us right now. America’s people deserve better than oligarchs running wild.
