I was so tired at the end of this week; I’ve mostly been taking today pretty easy — put away some laundry, did a few loads of dishes, finally took down the Christmas tree (Kev actually took it down, but Kavi and I put the ornaments away). Anand is away at D&D for many hours today, so has managed to escape chores. I’ll have to catch him early tomorrow (before he goes to his OTHER D&D game…)
All the Christmas bins are just piled helter-skelter in the basement right now, but I should be able to get them away tomorrow, and maybe even get the tree off the back porch and into a tucked away spot in the garden, ditto the swagged cedar branches. Then Christmas will actually be AWAY, only a few days past Valentine’s Day, sigh…although until I also mail out the Christmas cards AND belated presents to my sisters, I suppose Christmas won’t actually be done. It’s been a rough month, folks.
Mostly I spent today reading, though I did take an hour to do a little resin work. My little booth at Sprout is perilously close to chock-full, but someone contacted me and said they’d seen my citrus serving board at Sprout, but when they went back it was gone. I think that actually sold at least a month ago, but I’m happy to make more, as long as they’re not in a hurry, and they said they’re not. (If you see something you like at my shop, I wouldn’t count on it still being there a few days later. Sorry!)
So, in progress:
• a citrus serving board (using up almost the last of my dried citrus, need to buy and slice and dry some more)
• a little round leaf tray that I’m actually making for myself for a change (I think it’ll be nice in our bathroom to hold toiletries)
• a little house in progress, featuring a happy gerbera daisy and springtime pastels, because it’s time to look ahead
• a white hydrangea and gold leaf tray getting a top coat (because I like having some of the botanical matter protrude sometimes, but thought this one was just a little TOO bumpy — I want them to be functional as trays too, at least sometimes)
• a peony table with some protective glue drying — tomorrow, I should be able to flip it over and do a final coat on the base. Give it a couple weeks to cure, add the legs, and it’ll be ready to go. Exciting — this is using the last of my peonies from 2024, so I won’t be making more of these until the peonies bloom again (around May)…
Progress. When everything is falling apart around us, it’s comforting to set the house in order and make beautiful objects.
Tomorrow I water the plants, record a podcast with Benjamin Rosenbaum, and plan resistance.
