“If it doesn’t interest them, they will avoid it”

Good succinct comment on an Atlantic story, re: ADHD: “I smell an adhd success story. I see this as a professor. Many adhd students are struggling along and then become the top student in a class when the subject matter engulfs their interest. It can be on only one assignment. Their other work in a class may not be great, but is good enough to pass. Adhers on medication generally seem to get it all done whether or not they’re interested.

ADHDers are interest driven, not reward driven. If it doesn’t interest them, they will avoid it. Interest is a big spectrum. E.g. stress may produce interest.” – Stephen Stern
