We took PLANTS and put them in our FOOD

I had a plan for the kids this summer — that I’d spend some time getting them a little more competent at things. I wanted to work on a) cooking, b) sewing, and c) riding a bike (which neither of them can do yet, because they’re exceedingly cautious, which is putting it kindly).

So far, very little progress on those, but yesterday, I finally managed to take a little time to teach Anand the basics of building a sauce. Kevin and I do our tomato sauces very differently — I always start with chopped onions and garlic as my base, and he doesn’t. His way is supposedly easier (something about dumping in onion and garlic whole and then taking them out again, which he also claims is more authentically Italian), so Anand may like it better, but I figured I’d show Anand my method, and Kevin can show him his, and then Anand can do what he likes.

Regardless, a little progress! And I managed to clean off the ironing board and sewing table yesterday too, so perhaps I can convince Anand to try sewing a seam on the machine sometime soon. We’ll see!

P.S. — I almost forgot the funniest bit; when I took Anand to the porch to snip some basil and oregano for the sauce, he was just bewildered that we were just going to take PLANTS and put them in our FOOD. 🙂
