Here’s the secret news — I got my first tattoo on Wednesday! 🙂 I wanted to show Kevin before I told y’all.
Very happy with it — I’ve been thinking about a tattoo for a long time, years and years, and just couldn’t decide what I wanted. But this little fire lizard (not a dragon, surprise!), is perfect, I think. I’ve placed it where I can cover it if I want to, but I suspect I won’t particularly want to.
I had gotten tired of seeing the port scar (nine years in now), and decided I’d rather see something dragon-ish instead. It’s a little complicated trying to explain what it means to me, but it works on multiple levels:
- covers the port scar
- is my little pet fire lizard (I imprinted hard on Menolly in McCaffrey’s the Harper Hall trilogy, and wanted a pet fire lizard desperately)
- I do love dragons generally (who doesn’t?)
There are other things too, harder to articulate. Symbols are complex.
Artist is Noah Trainor — he does great work and was very calm and soothing. It hurt a little, but basically like a dental cleaning. No big deal. Four Star Tattoo, Santa Fe.
