Some more layers to Ann’s preserved wedding bouquet art piece. One of the challenging aspects of this piece are that peonies are so large — if I’d put one in front, it would have dominated the piece. In the back, it’s somewhat obscured.
But I think having the peony in back is the right choice for this piece — the bride used peonies that her mother had planted, before she passed away. I love the idea that Lalitha Aunty is always there, the foundation of her daughter, supporting this marriage. And the pink of the peonies contrasts so nicely with the purples, blues, and greens in the rest of the bouquet, like a heart.
I’m going to pour at least one more layer tomorrow, but I think it will mostly be clear, with maybe just a bit more amaranth arching over the top, and a little more silvery-green to ground the sides, so that the piece overall invites you in, to consider the depths at the center. A secret garden.
