Quick TV report — Kevin and I recently started watching four shows:
Shrinking (Apple TV+) — by the writers of Ted Lasso, we’re five episodes in and enjoying it. Starring Jason Segel, with Harrison Ford in a major role. I still like watching that guy. The main characters are psychologists; the writing is smart and touching. We’re all caught up now, so it’s one a week going forward. Explorations of grief, among other things. This is our favorite of the four so far.
Reboot (Hulu) — set in a writers’ room / TV set, as they attempt to reboot a terrible 80s sit-com and make it actually good. We’ve watched a few episodes and will keep watching; it’s fairly predictable, but I enjoy the setting and Kevin is willing to watch it with me.
Mythic Quest (Apple TV+) — set in a game design studio, again, I enjoy the setting. Have only watched one episode so far, predictable, but mildly amusing. We usually try to give shows at least a few episodes to try to find their stride before making a decision.
Girls5Evah (Peacock (although apparently headed to Netflix after being cancelled by Peacock)) — we’ve just watched one episode so far, so can’t say a lot about it, but will likely watch at least a few more. Members of an 90s girl band try to restart their careers. Yes, there is a striking similarity in theme to Reboot, but the feel of the show is pretty different. This felt like the clunkiest of the pilots to me, but enough of my friends were enthusiastic about it, I’m going to give it at least a few more episodes.
