Obsessively Checking Political News

Still obsessively checking political news, need to stop and get going on my day soon.

Looks like we’re currently projected to have the Democrats maintain their very narrow margin in the Senate. Fingers and toes crossed. It’d make a big difference for judicial appointments (let’s try and roll back some more of Trump’s damage), and since Senate appointments are six-year terms, it’s a long-term effect on the Senate overall.

There’s a lot to track, and I haven’t been following as closely as I wish I had for other states. How’s it going in your state, peeps?

Illinois has stayed very solidly blue, thank all the little gods. I can worry a little less about my daughter’s reproductive rights for the next few years. And it seems like in general, being anti-abortion has not been a winning tactic for Republicans across much of the country. Maybe they’ll take note.

I was very pleased to see that Illinois voters also approved an amendment to the state constitution that would guarantee the right to bargain collectively. “The fate of the ballot measure was being closely watched in Illinois and beyond, as it will gauge public support for the labor movement, which has lost ground for years in conservative-led states.” — https://www.cbsnews.com/…/illinois-election-voters…/

Congrats to Fritz Kaegi for not only winning re-election as Cook County Assessor, but doing so with 81.5 percent of the vote! Keep fighting the good fight, Fritz — clearly, we’re with you!

And huge congrats to Josina Morita, who will be the first Asian American woman on the Cook County Board in the second largest county in the country! Proud of you!
