Facing It Head On

Progress is being made on my parents’ eldercare paperwork; we’ve hired a lawyer who will charge a flat rate for doing all the paperwork for both of them, and we know what our next steps are — we need power of attorney, healthcare representative, living will, and an updated actual will.

If you don’t have these set up yet, please consider doing so. If you should become incapacitated, and need something like conservatorship, it all becomes much more complicated, time-consuming, and fraught.

I know these conversations are often awkward, but sometimes, you just have to face such things head on. Avoiding it won’t make it better.

I’m feeling very grateful that my sisters and I get along and are pretty much of the same mind on these matters; this would all be much harder with a more acrimonious family dynamic.

Also feeling grateful to my middle sister who has taken on the bulk of the work — it’s a lot of work, and very time-consuming. I’m just doing a little bit.

Photo of my parents’ crepe myrtle, which is very splendid at the moment.
