Radiation Levels

Working on a story this morning (yay), and have a quick research question for my science peeps.

I need radiation levels to be climbing in a manufacturing plant, and I don’t have a good sense of what levels are:

– relatively safe
– relatively dangerous
– clearly critical, and

– fatal (for humans)

If I were going to be intercutting a countdown through the story, what levels should I use to indicate the urgency, and hitting those four stages? And how would you colloquially refer to the levels — the chart here says it’s measured in mSv, but I assume you don’t say that — that it’d be something like 5000 rads? (Am I making that up?)
