I had a casual friend in college; her name was Nampu’ko (the apostrophe indicated a click), and I was thinking of naming a character in my current novel after her.
But I’d like to know what language / culture that kind of name comes from, so I can try to do justice to the character and her family / culture as I write it — anyone know?
It looks like anywhere in the Xhosa / Bantu area is likely somewhat appropriate, but googling is not turning up that name in particular, so I’m not sure how to pin it down further.
