A Syllabic System

One more thing I hope to do today — take a few hours to finish my design for the alphabet tea towel challenge (due tomorrow @ 2 CST). I told Kavi I’d decided to do the Tamil alphabet, and she said, “Isn’t that a LOT of letters?” Yes, yes it is — it’s a syllabic system, which I don’t have the brain to explain right now, but it’s something like 216 letters? I am just doing the vowels. 🙂

I’m not at all sure about the colors yet, but I like the overall concept, and had fun with the first two letter designs — one with stitching (like kantha stitches) and one with vines. (Ignore the little squiggle at the top of the first letter — that’s a layering artifact, I’ll clean it up.)

Hm. I think I want to make all the letters a little bigger on the page. I should have enough room to do that and not crowd things. I can always skip the 3 dots one, which isn’t really a vowel anyway…

Heh. Probably not a very good transliteration there, but just in case you’re curious what this sounds like. 🙂 I *think* I’m remembering them right…
