Feeling grateful to Tina and Liz, heroic airline personnel who spent forty-five minutes on hold and eventually managed to sweet-talk their supervisor into cutting us a deal. We’re still going to get home two hours later and $300 poorer than we’d planned…but could have been $800 poorer, so we’re counting our blessings. How we got into this mess is a long, complicated story; at this point, just glad we’re going home, glad we have electronic devices to help keep the kids entertained, and glad to discover that adding a shot of caramel and whipped cream to a chai latte makes it quite dessert-like and fortifying. The only thing that might improve it at this point would be a shot of whiskey…
