This note might have been more useful five hours ago. May be a bit sludgy tomorrow. But damn, that was a great read.
(Polish roots, lots and lots of magic, cranky wizards, political infighting. Reminded me a bit of Barbara Hambly’s _Dragonsbane_, while being completely different.)
