I was very sad when, in moving my potted amaryllis, Apple Blossom fell over and broke, right in the middle of its stem. Only one of six buds had bloomed at that point, and I was afraid all was lost. But I'd just read that amarylli actually made great cut flowers, so what the heck -- I cut it off cleanly and put it in water. And look -- a week later, four glorious blooms and two more slowly opening. Excellent.
