Had a really nice…
Had a really nice conversation with a former student who wandered by; ended up giving him half an hour of academic career advice, which he was super-appreciative of. This is one reason (of many) why the adjunctification of the university is terrible for students -- if I'd been an adjunct forced to run to four different schools in order to make enough money to barely survive in Chicago, I would not be sitting in my office with an open door right now. I wish I knew how to make more students (and their tuition-paying parents) aware of this issue. They're being cheated, and they don't realize it.
Mary Anne, I think this blogger has an excellent idea that she discusses in this post. I am only sometimes a political acitvist, but this is worth the effort.
