"Amirthi, you cannot stir the onions *and* read!" Amirthi is my middle name, and what my mother calls me (along with the rest of the Sri Lankan community from when I was growing up); that line was one I heard often in my teen years. I am afraid that it is a rule more often honoured in the breach than the observance in my adulthood, but I have, at least, gained a modicum of sense as I aged -- enough that I put *down* the book when I started the deep frying.
