Kavi eye doctor…

Kavi eye doctor follow-up -- all looks great. Check back in September to see how the prescription's doing. Kev then took her to the pediatrician for follow-up; there's a bit of scar tissue under the skin where the bat hit, so a small (not visible) bump, but not a big deal. She also got the stitches out on her chin, which apparently required some tugging and the scab came off, so ouch, and she also got her finger pricked for the six-year-old-check-up they combined with that, so an ouchy day for her, but overall, I think she's healthy. And Kavi has new light-up sneakers now, which are a better size for her feet, so hopefully she won't fall over them again. She's apparently the slowest one in her class, which I'm afraid she might get from me; athletic ability was never my strong suit. Ah well. All the doctors and nurses and staff all agree that she is both super-smart and super-sweet, so those will hopefully serve her well if her feet fail her.

The rest of the day was going into campus to attend a job talk (good, interesting, on race and queerness and prisons and the tv show Oz), then swinging by a mental illness in Asian Americans theatrical production a colleague organized (unfortunately, job talk ran long enough that I arrived halfway through the performance, so didn't go in to interrupt the show, but I'm sure it was splendid; the last one of these she organized was great (in a sad and moving and informative sort of way), and finally heading off to Powell's on Halsted to attend an undergrad reading organized by another colleague, which was tiny, but still a lot of fun. It's the end of the semester, and everyone's trying to pack in final events, and everyone's running around frantic, but I'm just grateful that the kids are now old enough and non-exhausting enough that I can manage to go to all these optional things. Good for my department good-membership, and also mostly educational / enjoyable. :-) I even had a few writing ideas, which I will now go jot down before they disappear -- no time to write them out tonight, but in a few weeks, hopefully...
