For a while, a few years ago, I was thinking of putting together a small poetry chapbook. I was going to title it Domestic, or Domesticity -- they would be poems about home and children and cleaning. I realized tonight that I want to amend the book project. I think I'll call it Domestic Troubles, and add in all the poetry about the war in Sri Lanka, about Newtown, about the Boston Massacre. I had a moment of thinking the two subjects, violence and home, would be too disparate. But no, that's the point, isn't it? That one precludes the other. The link is inextricable.
