I have the weirdest hostessing anxieties. Three of Kavi's new kindergarten friends are coming to Anand's party at the house today, and presumably at least a few of their parents are coming too, people I don't know. And on the one hand, I'm worried that my house will seem too big and too fancy; it's one of the larger ones in Oak Park, which also has a lot of condos and apartments. Of course, River Forest, the suburb next door, has MUCH larger houses and yards than ours. My anxiety here is pointless, but I periodically fret about it whenever new people are coming over. We've lived in this house for over a year, you'd think I'd be used to it.
And on the other hand, I'm worried that these parents (oh, be honest, the MOMS) will think badly of me for putting out so much candy (rainbow lollipops, gumdrops, Trix treats (like rice krispie treats, but way more colorful), all in addition to the cake. I may drizzle some colorful chocolate over popcorn too. Clearly, I am out to poison their kids with artificial colors and masses of SUGAR.
