An exciting (and sad)…

An exciting (and sad) day for Strange Horizons. Welcome to the third of their new fiction editors, An Owomoyela; se will be joining Brit Mandelo and Julia Rios.

Jed Hartman will be stepping down as senior fiction after twelve years of service. I'm sure when I talked him into the job, he had no idea it would eat so many hours and years of his life. Eat in a good way. Really!

Here is Jed's own blog entry, recapping the last twelve years (if you edit fiction, I think there's some particularly useful stuff in here) and talking about what's to come.

Finally, to quote Niall's editorial:

"During the time that Jed, Karen Meisner and Susan Marie Groppi were running the fiction department, Strange Horizons had stories nominated for the Hugo, Nebula, Theodore Sturgeon, Locus, Aurealis, BSFA, and World Fantasy awards, and honor-listed for the Tiptree Award; and had over forty stories selected for reprinting in Year's Best anthologies. Jed, Karen and Susan presented us with astonishing new writers, and exceptional stories from established talents, and I'm sure I speak for everyone reading this when I say I'm profoundly grateful for all they've contributed to the magazine over the years."

Ditto. The fiction team has moved on. All hail the new team!
