And here's a garden ID question -- any idea what these are? The first large blossom (as big as my hand) is from the massive tree on the street in front of our house. The second is growing wild along our south wall, and looks like perhaps a type of nodding allium to me? Not sure. Any thoughts?
The first one looks like a bloom from a tulip tree: https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=“tulip+tree”&prmd=ivns&tbm=isch
That’s it! And Dan Brighoff tells me via Facebook that the second is spiderwort. A little research said that it’s edible, so I just tried a bit of the leaf — very mildly sweet. Nice. The flowers apparently make a nice garnish in salad; maybe we should have salad this week. 🙂
