Kavi sang “Jingle…

Kavi sang "Jingle Bells" all the way from San Jose to Los Gatos. Which is only about fifteen minutes, but when it's just four lines of a song being repeated, it's a bit much. Or it would be, if it weren't Christmas. It was charming. Kev and I laughed a lot, but quietly, so she wouldn't notice.

My favorite carols this year (in order of frequency of my singing them to self):

  1. Do You Hear What I Hear
  2. Good King Wenceslas
  3. The Holly and the Ivy
  4. Adeste Fidelis (with one verse in Latin)
  5. Stille Nacht (with one verse in German)
I like me some old-fashioned songs. And the more story they have (in the song, or about the song), the better.

But really, I think I hit most of the major carols multiple times this year, and several kids' Xmas songs too. It was Kavi's first real exposure to them and "Up on the Housetop" and "Frosty" were a big hit. I'm not so sure if she likes Rudolph.

I really need to learn "Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella," as I kept wanting to sing it but only know about half the words. Next year. And I think I'm going to have to start learning some of the pop Christmas songs too -- I know "Let it Snow," but that's about the only one I can sing all the way through.

Do you have favorite Christmas songs? Did you sing them this year?

  1. I love “Do You Hear What I Hear,” “We Three Kings,” and “What Child Is This” (if that’s the correct title?). We’ve been singing the pop tunes to Patrick, “Rudolph,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “Jingle Bells,” “Winter Wonderland.” Jay attempts “The 12 Days of Christmas” but usually gives up around 9 or 10. 🙂 It’s fun to entertain the baby with our horrible singing, but it made me realize how few songs I know by heart.
