What’s your position on…

What's your position on letting children eat dirt? Yea / nay?

It makes him so happy...

  1. I say let him eat what he wants. It will keep his defenses strong against infection. I experimented eating all sorts of things when I was a little boy. The one I remember most vividly from before age 4 was burnt match heads, which were readily available, since my father was a smoker in those days.

  2. That’s one thing I won’t mind my hypothetical, imaginary, fictional children eating 😀

    Its got fiber! 🙂

  3. Toddlers eat weird stuff all of the time, and it’s mostly harmless, but a persistent desire to eat dirt or other non-foods is called pica, and is probably worth asking your doctor about. Cute picture! LOL.

Heh. I was mostly joking — he doesn’t actually eat much dirt, but he does taste it at least once whenever we go outside. Have to make sure it didn’t magically turn yummy, I guess. 🙂

As the saying goes, ‘have to eat a peck of dirt before ya die.’

I don’t know why you have to, though. (A peck is a dry measure of two gallons. That seems like a lot.)

There do appear to be real dangers to the developing immune system in too much elimination of dirt and such from the lives of children.
