I may need to get that tattooed on my forehead as a reminder.

  1. ” Victorian Exterior Decoration” by Roger Moss – great book, should be in library near you. The cover house is stunning. I love blue, but find it wears badly (gets brownish) and can be very overwhelming on a huge space like a house body. Pam seems to have a good sense of how color looks with real life house proportions. Body in a deep, rich brownish red could be stunning with right accents.
Best of luck & have fun!

Interesting. I do have America’s Painted Ladies already, but the library here has the Moss, so I’ll go pick it up!

I should note, though, that I think I’m more in the San Francisco colorist tradition than the strict Victorian interpretation. I love the brights and richness — especially in Oak Park, which has an overwhelming preponderance of earth tone Craftsman homes. You don’t really have a lot of choice with a Craftsman, since they’d look silly with anything else. But with a Victorian, I think there’s a bit more license for whimsy.

Really, I want a fairy tale cottage. But practicality may rein me in. We’ll see.

Just to note that I’m finding the Moss very helpful in terms of figuring out which colors go where. Even if I’m going to be a little riskier in terms of which blue we use. 🙂
