This is pretty funny –…

This is pretty funny -- horrible lines from sf/f/h. Some are just clearly editing mistakes, some are very sad. If there's one lesson to take away from this, it's that the movement of your characters' intestines are probably better left unexplored. Also that Robert Jordan should be prevented from writing any more ever.

I also recently noticed that a book Bob agented is now out, 99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises in Style. It's a comic version of an apparently well-known prose book that I should probably have read. But the comics are fun to read, and clearly useful for any comic artists out there, and possibly for prose writers too. V. clever.

I took a break from writing to read blogs and glance at CNN. Miers withdrew her nomination for the Supreme Court! The White Sox won the World Series! There's an awful lot of news going on out there in the world, and I've been missing it with all the staring at the computer screen. I actually have no feelings on the White Sox win, but as a Chicagoan, I will dutifully cheer with the rest of them. Yay, Sox!

David, I can only say that everyone has their blind spots. 🙂

I admit to reading the first four books, but I ended up hurling the fifth one across the room. They just got progressively worse, and now I think they’re pretty much unredeemable dreck.

We may have to agree to disagree. 🙂

  2. And yet another hurricane has hit us in Florida!! Classes cancelled until next week! Must reduce course content significantly! Don’t know whether to be relieved for the break or frustrated for the teaching!

  3. Maybe I should clarify a bit. I agree that many of the individual volumes of _Wheel of Time_ do not cut it as novels. They are part of a much longer story which unfortunately had to be cut into pieces. But, I love the twenty or so main characters and the wondrous peoples and cultures that Jordan has created, so any chance to spend time with them pleases me.
