So yes, as you can see,…

So yes, as you can see, I'm still jetlagged. Yesterday, I just couldn't keep my eyes open any longer by 6 p.m. and went to bed. Woke up around 2 a.m., and finished reading Gregory Macguire's Mirror Mirror, which was fine, but not nearly as good as Wicked, which I devoured while I was in Sri Lanka. If you haven't read it, go. Though I'll warn you that it's quite bleak.

If I haven't said, here are the three books I've read in the last year that I would recommend strongly: Wicked, The Time Traveller's Wife, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I have read many many books in the last year, but these three stand out. What would you recommend?

Plans for today: More e-mail, proofing the galleys of Blowing Kisses (which I should have done weeks ago, but various mailing fiascos intervened), reading and responding to one of my student packets, editing the last set of photos from the trip and putting them up along with trip reports of the past few days, pick up keys from the north side, buy groceries. If I finish all that, there's a good set of tasks waiting for DesiLit/Kriti.

My favorite books of all time are:

_Against the Fall of Night_ by Arthur C. Clarke
    _Midnight Robber_, by Nalo Hopkinson
    _Fanny_, by Erica Jong
_Skinny Legs and All_, by Tom Robbins
    _Jitterbug Perfume_, by Tom Robbins

I have read everything I can find by Nalo and by Tom Robbins. These really stand out, in my mind.

  2. Mary Anne Mohanraj

I was actually thinking more recent books, last year or two, rather than favorite all-time books. But that’s okay. 🙂 I wasn’t clear.

  3. favourite books of the last few years (so many)

the baroque trilogy – neal stephenson
cryptonomicon – neal stephenson (ok its older than a few years but still)
the culture stories – iain m banks
Anarky (trade paperback, finally bought it) – DC Comics

The Linux Cookbook – (O’ Reilly publications)

ok so i am a geek. i’ll go lurk now

  4. If you have not read them, I recommend Hal Clement’s last two novels. I am not remembering the titles just now. Of course, if hard sf is not your thing, they probably won’t be good choices.
