So, the publicity work…

So, the publicity work continues. Specifically, I asked Marjorie about a book club version, with a reader's guide, and she said that that wasn't something they'd include in a hardcover normally -- they'd just put that material on the book's website. Presumably, if the book does well and goes to trade paper, they'd think about including it there. And then she said that if I'm willing to draw up the questions, that those reader guides written by authors were generally better than those written by the house staff. Which makes sense to me. And then she said that it'd be good to have that in the next few weeks. Eep.

I've never actually read a reader's guide -- I'm going to go and look at some today and tomorrow. But if those of you who have read the book (or parts of it) would like to chime in with some possible questions for discussion, that would be mighty fine. :-) I'll undoubtedly be posting my drafts here, for your wise input, as well.

The plan for the rest of today is a) work on that, b) help Susan prepare for the SH fund drive, c) possibly meet up with Cliff for an hour or two of writing in the afternoon, d) go to the city for a free fundraising class at The Foundation Center (Grantseeking Basics for Individuals in the Arts), e) have dinner with Meera, a very old friend who I recently discovered is living in the Bay Area. If there's time, try to squeeze in the last few updates of that writing booklist. Sounds good! :-)

  1. The reader’s guide at the back of The Jane Austen Book Club were hilarious and very tongue-in-cheek, though this was the tone Karen employed in much of the book, so it fits. I’m not sure if it’s what you’re looking for at all, but they’re still fun to read.
