Oog. So, I was queasy…

Oog. So, I was queasy yesterday, and I tried taking some Dramamine. The regular kind, not the non-drowsy kind. And I don't think I've ever taken it before, and my body is apparently not at all used to it, because it completely knocked me out. I took it around 4-ish, and by 5, I was crashing on the couch. Kevin kept coming in and asking me if I wanted to take a phone call, or help with the new computer data transfer, or eat something, and I really couldn't even process what he was saying; I just slept and slept and slept. Until just now. Granted, I was pretty tired, and had had a lot of trouble sleeping the night before, but still. Oof.

Need to spend some time cleaning up and cooking now; people coming by for dinner tonight. I had planned on doing some stuff in advance, but oh well. It'll be fine.

Tomorrow, back to writing, I think. With my new computer! Which is all shiny and spiffy. (12-in Powerbook G4, for those who care.) Yay!

  1. Dramamine (Gravol if you’re in Canada, the Caribbean, or the UK) is what I take to combat queasiness when I fly. It’s the only thing I’ve found which works. But its “boot to the head” effect is why I have to beg people not to schedule me to do anything that requires mental ability the minute I come off the plane. I need to sleep off the Dramamine long enough to stop drooling. There was a particular day on my tour where I had to wake up at 4:30 a.m. (leaving Chicago, in fact) to catch an early morning plane to DC. Right after I landed, I was reading at the Library of Congress. I made it through that without biting my tongue or curling up into a little snoring ball, but immediately after that, the librarians took me out to lunch. And I really wanted to go, but partway through lunch, had to announce that I had to leave, because I was about to do a face plant into my broccoli.

Yes, exactly. It’s funny — usually I hate it when my body rises up and overwhelms me with some physical sensation, like dizziness or nausea. But it was positively blissful being sucked into sleep like that. Maybe I was just very tired…
