Morning, munchkins! …

Morning, munchkins! Tomorrow I leave for th Bay Area (at some insane hour of the morning, in order to get a very cheap flight :-), and so I expect today to be a little crazy. The house isn't a total disaster right now, but it's chaotic, with laundry half done, dishes half done, plants needing water, stuff everywhere. I don't know why I feel a need to straighten it out before I leave, given that Kev will then have ten days to wreak havoc while I'm gone, but apparently housewifely instincts are hard to stifle sometimes. Hard for me, anyway -- he appears to have no trouble stifling his own. I shouldn't complain, though; the boy has kindly taken to cleaning most his chaos up before I get home again, which I deeply appreciate. I just try not to think about what it looked like in the intervening time...

I'm moderately pleased with the story I wrote yesterday -- but it's clearly not done. I was trying to work in so much history and political backstory (which is desperately lacking from the rest of the book) that I ended up with a very muddy story. And story is more important. Story is everything. Nalo gave me some kick-ass feedback on that last night, and I think I have a good idea of where to go to make it better. I'm actually hoping to work on the revision today, after I get back from the gym. We'lll see.

We're also racing to finish Silence and the Word in time for WisCon, so I have some stuff to do for that. Write up some promotional material, decide what goes on the back cover, etc. Ugh -- I wonder if I should be trying to solicit blurbs. I can't think who I know who would make for a good blurb for this kind of book. I don't know anyone else who writes this kind of book (which is usually the sort of person you get to write your blurbs; a famous one who does roughly what you do, and whose readers are likely to like your work). Maybe we'll not worry about the whole blurb concept...

  1. Well, at this late date, it’d need to be someone I know well enough to impose on. So I think it’s not likely to happen…
