WorldCon schedule

I should note — between my cold and the fact that I still have quite a backlog of anthology subs that I’m trying to get through, I’m mostly expecting to be hiding in my room when I’m not on actual programming. If I get to a point where I feel sufficiently better and can’t read subs anymore because my eyes are crossing, then you can look for me in the bar. But otherwise, your best bet to catch me is at the following events. (It’s not a bad selection, though I would’ve liked to be on a panel that was more firmly science fictional, given what I’m currently writing. Oh well.)

Trends in Magazine Publishing
Friday 14:00 – 15:00, 3501D – A/V (Kansas City Convention Center)
A lot of things have changed for magazine publshing. What’s the best way in, and how do we write for a genre that is moving across media?

The Joy of Cookbooks….
Friday 16:00 – 17:00, 2210 (Kansas City Convention Center)
Nigella Lawson has said that if a cookbook has one amazing recipe you return to again and again it is a keeper. On the other hand, do we really need to keep a cookbook just for one recipe? What is it about them that make cookbooks so addictive to collect and how many do you really use? Are they just new or do you cherish family heirlooms and even use old ones from thrift/charity shops and yard sales?

Magazine Group Reading: Clarkesworld
Friday 17:00 – 18:00, 2202 Readings (Kansas City Convention Center)
Our Magazine Group Reading Series continues with a special group reading that features authors from Clarkesworld Magazine. (Each group reading is 50 minutes long (max) and includes 5 readers who each receive approx 5 minutes to read a portion of a story that was published by the magazine)

Wild Cards launch party and mass signing with George R.R. Martin
Friday 17:00 – 21:00 (obviously I will be arriving late to this, given Clarkesworld reading previous)
On Friday, we will have the launch party for HIGH STAKES, and the mass signing, sponsored by Rainy Day books. This will be a ticketed event, from 5pm to 8pm. It has been scheduled for the COUNT BASIE ROOM of the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. Yes, we will definitely have copies of HIGH STAKES.

Wild Cards Cage Matches
Saturday 15:00 to 17:00
Truman stage of the Kansas City Convention Center.

Oh, Goddess!
Sunday 11:00 – 12:00, 2205 – A/V (Kansas City Convention Center)
Goddessses like Medusa, Ishtar, Atali, Macha, Varda, Azaroth, and Eequor abound in fantasy. Many goddesses are firmly rooted in religious and mythological histories. What are the commonalities between goddesses? Are fertility and sexuality disproportionately represented because of the historical orgins of the goddesses? Are goddesses defined too much by today’s gender biases?
